Based in Celles-sur-Durolle near Thiers, French capital of cutlery for over six centuries, Verdier Manufacture has upheld the ancestral expertise of master cutlers for almost two centuries, while innovating and regularly integrating new techniques.
Established in 1859 near Thiers – the French cutlery capital for at least six centuries –, Verdier Manufacture is a family-run business, heir to traditional craftsmanship acquired through ancestral experience in blacksmithing and cutlery. With expertise in different domains, Verdier is proud to produce 100% ‘made in France’ products suited to all kinds of budgets. Only 40 km separates our main factory and 95% of our suppliers and partners. We prioritise local know-how and resources to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. Packaging manufacturers, raw material suppliers, all of them lie within a 45-minute drive.
Since 1859, date of our first trademark registration, six generations of cutlery makers have worked hard to propose one of the most remarkable ranges of French cutlery: professional and household knives, kitchen utensils, flatware and pocket knives. Four brand names now support the values of our French craftsmanship: André Verdier, La Botte Couronnée, Scof and Delarboulas. Our commitment to maintaining local production and our devotion to preserving our unique industrial know-how over time is rewarded by multiple certifications.
In 2012, Verdier received the label of “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company) for the transmission and protection of ancient cutlery production techniques. Since 2013, our factory is acknowledged as an “Atelier d’Art de France” for the “SCOF” and “Delarboulas”: hand-crafted high-class products made using specific materials and techniques. In 2014, the “Collège Culinaire de France” (French culinary college) awarded our factory with the label “Artisan de qualité” (craftsmen of excellence) which has opened the door to close partnerships with well-known Chefs.
