FAIENCERIE DE GIEN
The Gien Faïencerie, a 21th Century factory combining tradition with modernity
Founded in 1821, the Faïencerie de Gien nestled in the Loire Valley is a flagship of French decorative arts, rooted in its territory and recognised throughout the world. Gien invites you to enhance your day-to-day, to savour the moment and to cultivate a certain art of living.
Faïencerie de Gien made its name in the 19th century by creating tableware for the great aristocratic families of Europe. In keeping with tradition, the Faïencerie still offers a customised service today. It also created the tiles for the Parisian metro and tableware for the Orient Express, earning a reputation for excellence. Finally, know-how spanning two hundred years, coupled with the exceptional quality of its earthenware, are what give Gien its credentials of excellence and authenticity.
Today, the Faïencerie de Gien is renowned for its tableware collections, combining elegance and conviviality, as well as for its delicate and contemporary decorative pieces.
AUTHENTIC - Our heritage is at the heart of our identity, our roots and traditions are the bedrock of our authenticity. Our local roots are strong, with fully integrated production in France: from the raw materials (sand, clay, kaolin) to the plate, including the moulds, glazes and pigments, all the manufacturing stages are carried out in Gien, using unique formulas and know-how that are a closely kept secret. The Faïencerie de Gien embodies French know-how. A Gien plate requires 26 ingredients, 3 firings and passes through the hands of 30 “master earthenware makers”, heirs to two centuries of know-how.
WARM - Unique because of its natural composition, earthenware is a living material with a sensual and warm touch, it creates emotions. It is a material that enhances decorations and creates a convivial atmosphere. The Gien collections offer a style that is both elegant and relaxed.
CREATIVE - A symbol of refinement and the French art of living, the Gien style is identifiable at first glance. With around fifty designs, whether timeless or more creative, Gien is the brand of patterns, colours and stories. The collections are as many treasures from the Gien archives as they are contemporary creations by renowned artists, ranging from plates to exceptional hand painted pieces.
